Thursday 12/1/11 TeaDay December TeaShopping?

by Chip » Nov 30th, '11, 23:03

Welcome TeaChatters to TeaDay. You are all invited to brew some tea and share what is in your cup today, all day, of course. Photos welcome!

We have been discussing the tea of the month for November. Please continue to dicuss this topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic can be a touchy subject ... on the wallet. Are you actively shopping for TEA at this time? Yes, no, always, maybe ... definitely not? If yes, what are you shopping for, and care to share where?

As always, I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up!

I can't eliminate the possibility but I've done all my tea shopping for this year and have everything I need until February or so.

With teaware you never know what might come around to tempt you.
I'll try not to buy anything ;)

I'm preparing an O-Cha order to replenish my supply of my favorite Sencha Otsuusan before it becomes an "emergency". I have only 8 servings left! I'm thinking of buying the least expensive matcha to "fix" the matcha-less Genmaicha Cha that I bought a few months ago.

Right now I'm drinking some wonderful Gyokuro Tsuru Jirushu from 2010. The only reason it lasted this long is that I didn't begin drinking gyo regularly until I purchased a shiboridashi set and learned how to use it properly.

I bought enough teaware in November to tamp down the shopping urge for a while. I purchased a small Yixing pot from Red Blossom, second glass gaiwan for tea tastings, and 4 canisters, just because they were pretty and effective.

Most of my tea purchases are local, or I stock up when I am in Japan....which is becoming more and more frequent of late.

best,

I'm waiting until after Christmas to make my next tea purchase. I want to make sure I don't get any doubles of what Santa brings me.

I'm always thinking about a tea order, because every time I finish any package of tea, I wonder if I'm running out of that kind of tea.....how is the supply of deeply roasted oolongs? Is it time to order more Dan Cong from Tea Habitat? and how long will it be before I can justify ordering some new sencha, like those that were in the most recent OTTI? some of those were sooo good.....but right now, the tea shelf and the tea drawers are still pretty packed, enough to share out some as holiday gifts to tea friends without any additional purchases, so no excuse to order more yet. Sigh.....

Actually, I lied. I just realized I am dangerously low on matcha, so I guess a tea order is on the horizon.

Pretty much always shopping online for tea ... on some level even if it is more of a fact finding mission.

Sometimes it is discussion here that triggers a particular search ... however today it was a discussion with (name drop coming) George Jage, the prez of WorldTeaNews, WorldTeaExpo, etc. that prompted a search of Korean teas, although it turns out he is a big fan of Japanese teas! Turns out I happened to give George a reason to visit TeaChat recently. 8)

And today, Gyokuro Yume from O-Cha with the Mrs. reigned supreme. Served up in vintage Choun gyokuro set ... an old print of Yama Temple in Sendai is in the background. I wonder if this still stands.

Also had sencha Premier from our host today. I think I like this one brewed lighter, more Western style.
