Don't spend much more than you would on lunch for a scale because it will soon be an unused appliance gathering dust.
Weigh a few samples and see what 5 grams LOOKS like or 8 grams or 3 grams based on your style of preparation. After that the scale is just a distraction.

... in your humble opinion I am sure. I weigh at the very beginning of the preparation, then forget it. It would be more of a distraction for me if I used too little leaf or too much.

I use mine each day ...
What can I say.

I enjoy the weighing process ...
And enjoy observing the leaves.

Each tea is different ...
Though I am much less apt to weigh anything but Japanese teas.

However, like how you determine how much leaf to use ...
And determine how much leaf you use as you like.

Well, truth be told, I think it is easier for me to weigh versus the alternative of eyeballing it. And this does help satisfy the mad TeaScientist in me! 8)

I, like Chip, use mine every single day. (OCD  )

I found one on ebay for just over $10 including shipping. And it's sensitive to 1/100th of an inch. So keep looking.

I am assuming you mean, "1/100th of a gram"?
