Are there any Metal or Aluminium tea tables available?

by itsgoingtorainsoon » Nov 24th, '11, 01:10

As oppose to all the bamboo tea tables out there? preferable around 12"x8".

Have you considered stone?

High on my wish list is stone, polished granite for instance. There are dozens of superb stone tea trays and tables in the shops in Malaysia but few attractive ones online.

ebay Dragon TeaHouse does a couple, but not to my taste.

This kind of stainless steel tea tray is the most popular in southern Fujian.

It's dirty cheap and lasts forever. I wish there were some sold in Chinatown but haven't found any yet.

The only really nice metal tea tray I've seen is Marshal's vintage model that is not available to us mere mortals. I had a really good look on taobao, and there are probably thousands of metal tea trays for sale, but they're all pretty terrible by comparison. Imperial Tea sells a metal tray that looks sort of decent, but is obviously thin and poorly made compared to one linked above.

Personally I would avoid stone for use with expensive teaware. Wood is much softer.

The one posted by ginkoseto is really common around here. I have never seen a nice looking metal one, other than vintage ones. Wood, stone, glass, or porcelain are also an option. Stone ones are gorgeous, but really expensive, especially the pretty ones, and shipping is horrific! I would suggest a wooden one. Some of them are very beautiful and if you get one with a plastic tray or liner inside, they will not split or break on you and will offer years of service. Glass and porcelain are nice too, but more breakable.

The pewter ones (old and new) do pop up on Taobao from time to time -- that's where mine is from. However, they're definitely not easy to find these days.

In addition to the beautiful one Marshaln found, I've seen some others for sale at HK tea shops. But I don't think (m)any new pewter ones are being produced.

The plain stainless steel ones with holes throughout are a bit easier to find.

The noise would drive me crazy. I think I want one made out of foam rubber.
