I just received a 2003 Yunnan Pu-erh Tuocha from puerhtea.com
It's much better than the terrible sack of Yunnan Pu erh (generic term, I know) I got from the local Teahouse - which was very smokey and without nuance or depth. This one is smooth with some Qi. But, I would like to know more about this tea I'm drinking. No label or info on the paper that it is wrapped in.
I will email and see if I can find out where it's from. Is this common to have such a generic name? - with no label. It was only 10.00 so worth trying it out ... And I am enjoying the tea more than what I have been drinking .... but I do want to know more about the tea I am drinking.
Does anyone have experience with this tea vendor? I am new to ordering online - I live in New Mexico and feel like I'm on the moon sometimes. I miss Califrnia but am here for at least another year.
I also received a 2009 Dayi v93 & a 2006 Menghai V8.

you seem to be into shu so I would highly recomend their aged 2000 excellent brick. I stocked up on this one. Their awazon 1000 year ancient tree (at least the mang zi )are almost certainly plantiation so don't waist your money.

Re: 2003 Yunnan Pu-erh Tuocha
Thank you for the recommendatio, gasninja.
It's supposed to be the earlier edition of this tuocha
http://www.puerhshop.com/index.php?main ... cts_id=603
But The vendor does not think it was made by Xiaguan Tea Factory, so it was offered at a low price.
It was no big shake. Smooth and fine, but I want a more nuanced tea with some depth of flavor. I will try the brick u recommend. I am into shu. What do you mean by their awazon the mang zi are almost certainly plantation? Is plantation not good and if so, why?
Thank you! I am just learning and this is most helpful.

I just looked for the aged 2000 brick and did not see it. Would it be too much trouble to post a link to it?

Re: 2003 Yunnan Pu-erh Tuocha
Thank you. I am going to order it. I have been trying several different samples. I am testing how they taste on different infusions and from different vendors and I am not having an easy time telling them apart. I guess a have to develop my pallet, but so far, they are tasting so similar, it is nit as much fun as I had hoped.
Perhaps the differences are just very subtle.

You are drinking shu. It can be hard to tell the difference between shu, even by experienced people.
Sheng can be wildly different from each other.

Thanks for the feedback.
I did try one sheng & found it bitter and astringent - but, then, I did not try another and so can't compare. I will give it another try.
Considering this and that I do like Shu can you recommend a sheng?

I would not buy Sheng from that vendor personally. I would try Yunnan sourcing, bana tea company ,jas-etea, or you cant go wrong with one of. Young sheng @ essence of tea

IMO, sheng is for ageing. I'd rather drink quality green tea than put up with the astringency of sheng. But each to their own, as there are people out there who are really into young sheng.Earlcornbread wrote:Thanks for the feedback.

Recommendations: I found the YS own brand of young shengs quite intense, with plenty of Qi. For example:

http://www.yunnansourcing.com/store/pro ... oduct=1612
Ageing potential: no idea.

The sheng was from Bana tea. It was a sample sent with the Gaiwan I ordered.gasninja wrote:I would not buy Sheng from that vendor personally. I would try Yunnan sourcing, bana tea company ,jas-etea, or you cant go wrong with one of. Young sheng @ essence of tea
