Making Tea SW Alaska Style

Step 1 Get ice.
Step 2 Melt ice.

Getting the ice to make tea water. It seems like I get a lot more mileage out of my CNNP brick when I use melted river ice than I do when running well water through the Brita filter.

Do you have a... what's-it-called... ice house (? usually w/ sawdust?) to keep blocks through summer, too?

No. For tea we get rain water off the roof. My father-in-law used to get lake water during dry spells, which interestingly enough has that tundra taste of the last infusions of shu straight out of the lake.

We do keep small block ice in the chest freezer for slushing our subsistence fish come summer time.
