Welcome to Phase 2 of Hagi SO 17 Oribe SOU-SHUN “Comes the Spring” which depicts a changing of seasons as Winter Whites give way to the Greens and Raindrops of Spring.

From the Hagi innovator Yamane Seigan comes a totally brand new offering, never seen before, CREATED for TeaChat and this SO. Another TeaChat exclusive. In Hagi SOs, we often see tradition, but we often also see innovation.

This is an extremely limited run of this first time ever offering of this piece. The entire run is only 25 pieces including the Notched Foot pieces. So, first time offered and very limited run. Instant collectable!

You can view Phase 1 that has more background and information here:

viewtopic.php?f=66&t=16916

This Hagi SO also is another first in the Hagi Realm as the innovator Yamane Seigan created a Hagi Oribe piece with a white interior … and the bleeding of the green into the white interior … and the bleeding of the white into the Oribe exterior. The effect is visually stunning and different.

With or without Drippies, these are gorgeous Oribe Hagi-s!

Image

AND a bonus, many of these have desirable and much sought after “DRIPPIES” of epic proportions. In a firing, you might get one or two drips in the entire firing … or none at all. Here you have multiple, dramatic drippies on more than 2/3 of the pieces. This has never happened in a Hagi SO. And it may never happen again.

Image

It is a serendipitous occurrence that the artisan has can hope for but not expect. Too much drip, and the drips extend to the Kiln shelf and break when removing. So, the artisan generally does not try to create the drippies but celebrates when they occur. So do we!!!

The glaze I am told is hard to capture in photos, but it is lustrous, deep green with multiple hues and colors. The glaze is satiny to moderately glossy, not a high gloss. I imagine this will feel “warm” and soft in hand. The glaze tends to smooth over time and with much use.

I am sure you will agree, they are beautiful and spectacular!

As I mentioned in the Eiichi Commission and by special arrangement, $5-10 from each Hagi SO piece sold will go to the TeaChat Japan Relief Effort. So, buy an amazing piece of Hagi (or 2) and help a little with the Japan Relief Effort. Your purchase will feel even more special as a result!

Regarding pricing. Instead of taking the total cost of all pieces and averaging this for all pieces, the prices have been weighted based upon character and drippies. So, the pieces without drippies are slightly below the actual average, the ones with moderate drippies are right at the average. And the ones with most drippies are a little above the average. This certainly seems most fair.

Typically on an ebay auction, a drippie piece will sell for a much higher price than a non drippie counterpart … all other things being equal.

To order, email your selections to me at teachatmoderator@yahoo.com and include at least 5 or more selections in order of preference! In the subject, please state “Oribe Phase 2 selections.” Thanks!

Here are the pieces and prices in USD. Phase 2 is not an auction! Prices include the upgraded and more costly Tie Box and of course the $5-10 donation to the TeaChat Japan Relief Effort.

2 62.50
3 65

If you want more than one Oribe, be sure to state this clearly in your email! We will allow everyone to have an opportunity to buy one first. If there are extras, then members may buy a second Oribe. I would suggest including extra choices if you want a second Oribe as well.

Shipping:

1 work shipment cost: (registered-mail SAL: 1290 yen $17 / U.S. EMS: 2040 yen $27, Europe EMS: 2400 yen $31.75).

Shipment cost of two works: (registered-mail SAL: 1790 yen $23.75 / U.S. EMS:2800 yen $36.75, Europe EMS: 3250 yen $42.75).

Shipment cost of three works: (registered-mail SAL: 2390 yen $31.75 / U.S. EMS: 4000 yen $52.50, Europe EMS: 4600 yen $60.25).

If you are combining with an Eiichi Commission, your shipping for 2 (or 3) pieces will fall in between the above shipping and the Eiichi shipping, a little more than Oribe multiple and a little less than Eiichi multiple. You can view those charges under that topic. I will include your shipping charges in an email at the completion of this Oribe SO.

Tick tock tick tock ...
It's almost 6 o'clock!

FYI ... all participants who email in the first 60 minutes will be grouped together at the same time. Mini lotteries will take place as needed.

I think this is most fair.

I am anxious to see everyone's selections!

Whew ... still 3 spots available for this Phase 2 after the first hour!!! Thanks everyone!!! All these "first hour" participants are in the same boat. We are hoping for a late night completion of the selction phase for Phase 2! Please be patient.

If you want an Oribe Phase 2, please select FIVE pieces from this list: 6, 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 18

Wellll ... suffice it to say, please, NO more selections for #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 19. Nothing has been finalized yet ...

#1, 3, 12 figured into the top 3 selections for almost everyone along with a few others ... but these were the top picks. So, this should tell you that we will be running deep into selections submitted.

Members love the DRIPPIES!

Actually, 13, 17, and 18 each have at least one drippie which belies their lower price!
