Hello Everyone

by osadczuk » Dec 4th, '07, 12:05

Hi, like everyone else in this forum, I'm new here and I love tea.

I'm Rachel and, like an oddly large percentage of the population here, I'm from central Indiana.

Unlike most of the people here, I am an avid coffee drinker, but fear not, I love my tea too.

I tend to prefer blacks (not fond of the vegetative taste of greens, but maybe I've been brewing them wrong) and some oolongs. I'm not a big flavored tea drinker, unless it is orange and iced. Oh, and I like my tea hot or iced.

I have relatives in Indiana. Actually I was staying in Richmond, near Ohio, when I started drinking tea 5 years ago...

And as for the greens, I did not especially prefer green at first, but I discovered some outstanding examples of sencha and chinese green which completely won me over

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

Currently I am drinking Mambo and Earl Grey Bravo from Adagio. I prefer the Mambo with milk and sugar, and was greatly helped by this board when I realised taht perhaps I should use another teaspoon of tea in order to hit the correct weight (I don't have a tea scale) to water ratio. I added another teaspoon of tea and voila! tea nirvana. Earl Grey I do black.

As for iced tea, don't kill me, but I tend to use Lipton. Although I take it out of the bags to brew it. I just think of that flavor profile as "iced tea." However, to make up for it, I drink iced tea unsweetened (unless it is flavored, then I find that some sugar can help bring out the flavoring.)

Rachel,

Don't feel bad about the lipton (notice I don't capitalize it). Though my tea snobbery usually prevents the consumption of such a thing, sometimes you just want a big glass of southern style sweet tea.

Also, if that is what you crave for iced tea, I would suggest trying Adagio's Ceylon Sonata. Ceylon is what lipton uses and as soon as you try it you'll say "Hey now, there is something familiar!" only the flavor is much stronger than any CTC bag you can buy. I also enjoy their Yunnan Jig Iced. It is much delicious.
