ok can't argue with you there
maybe there espresso is still ok, I used to just get that, sometimes with a little milky foam on top, I have not bought anything from starbucks in about 10 years though

The article makes a few good points. But I feel it didn't point out the key factors (which I am not sure of either...)
In my past trips to Beijing, I sampled some coffee chain stores. There are quite a few coffee chain stores (most of them from Europe) taste much better to me than Starbucks. But none is as successful as Starbucks.
Similarly, every time when I am in Toronto, NYC or Boston, I can't help wonder this. With all the numerous choices of good coffee, why is Starbucks everywhere and often so crowded? Whether we like it or not, Starbucks is good at making profits and making its patrons feel privileged. That's quite an interesting phenomenon.

I was trying to talk to one of my classmates about why I don´t like starbucks...but he associated the burnt and rancid flavours with increased caffiene (despite starbucks having pretty much the lowest caffiene content per shot of any coffee shop) and his masculinity

Its rather disappointing to see that such a low quality company can make such high profits.
but, its nice to know that at least a handful of people are smart enough to realize what good coffee is.

unfortunately, the reason i got interested with tea was because of this company 
didn't know that it wasn't healthy
