very common in restaurants, mainly to mask the taste of low grade shu pu :)

I had some that was compressed together and it was probably the worst tea i've ever encountered. It left an off taste in my mouth for the whole day. I'm sure it might be ok if the quality of the tea is good. I don't drink western style so adding anything to my pot other than pu-erh seems strange.

Yes, like what the_econimist said it's very common in this part of the world in our local restaurants. Not really that nasty as G-off-re mentioned :lol:

I will drink them together at a dim sum place if the pu'er is not so pleasant tasting on its own. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it... I like chrysanthemum tea or pu'er tea separately more.
