NEWEST CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XVII
Re: NEWEST CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XVII
Thought I'd share a quick snapshot of the cup of dragonwell used to baptise my new sou-shun yunomi into it's tea-life ... (I know, Chinese tea in a Japanese cup, I'm such a rebel)

Looks nice with tea in it!
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with Chinese tea in a Japanese cup.
The only place I have problems crossing cultural boundaries for cups/teas is when I rather foolishly try to drink oolong or puerh from a delicate thin-walled cup designed for cooler-brewed green teas. Ouch!
This cup, though Japanese, and with reasonably thin walls at the middle of the bowl, has thick glazed rim and thick solid base, so plenty of insulated spaces for my fingers. Hot and cool, this one will take on all comers.

I think I was admiring that very same cup on Etsy.

I picked up two "white jade" cups on eBay, I was unable to capture it on the picture but they are actually quite translucent. They're also quite heavy for their size and a not very symmetric.

Kinda bummed I missed the Oribe SO.
My tea budget is maxed.
However, I have this to console me.
Very groggy tea bowl.

What a great cup! An ice cream afficionado might remark how it looks like a Neapolitan....

This was from my recent clay experiments.

That's my experience too, actually--though I haven't brewed any black or pu-erh teas in it, it's lovely for both greens and oolongs. Unlike my ROCK, which as much as I love it, can get very hot to the touch.
Is anyone besides me noticing their sou-shun is picking up tea-crackles really fast? All it took was one cup of tea, and bam! Golden lines across the bottom--it's been very interesting to watch.

Yes, took a few photos of that yesterday afternoon, but haven't downloaded them to the computer yet. I was quite surprised by the speed of it.
