Next up, Phase 2! Phase 2 includes 19 standard cut foot pieces. These will have set prices and will NOT be an auction.

Wow, it's really something.

Yamane Seigan oribe Hagi teacup - 09 by debunix, on Flickr

Such nice contrasts of pale interior, deep green exterior

and lovely mixing between them
Image
(and this was the bit that made me pick this one)

And I can't imagine wanting to interfere with this cool drippy
Image
but it looks like it had to be 'trimmed' already due to the shelf sticking, so I'll mostly admire the foot from this view

This one feels a bit wintry to me, like deep coniferous forests frosted with snow, "Evergreen"

Wow, lovely pictures--even with the natural lighting, I can see how difficult it would be to capture those colors ...

I finally received both of mine on Saturday after 10 days in customs limbo. Beautiful pieces. I've been using the oribe non-stop since Saturday. It's developing a few vertical crackles. Haven't used the kohiku yet. It's such a wide bowl I'll probably wait for warmer weather. :)

Thanks again, Chip and Hide-san for bringing these to us.

Wonderful news and pictures, everybody! With the crackles, has anybody noticed any effect on the outside of the cup yet...?

Thanks for all the photos, debunix!

Not a Phase 1 piece, but after well over 100 steeps, this Phase 2 Oribe piece is a slow-poke to crackle. The crackles are sporadic and quite visible. It has received a near steady diet of fine sencha since it arrived.

Drax, I am not expecting too much action on the outside of the cup, maybe after decades.

Now after probably less than 20 sessions, but more than a dozen, my evergreen Oribe Hagi has quite apparent crackles

Image

Chip, how is yours progressing?

Wellll, first allow me to introduce you to #20.

... funny you should ask, just took these a few days ago. After many many sencha steeps ... most unusual crackling going on.

The bottom, quite random and sporadic.
Image

However the sides are all vertical crackles (despite the horizontal ridges). I do not recall seeing this before in a Hagi ...

Fantastic interface on the outer lip of that one, oh my.

As for the crackles, that is very much what mine look like--although I'm seeing lighter horizontals along the verticals on the walls of the cup. Mine started staining very quickly, but the stains are still pretty light and irregular appearing.

Yeah, I was checking out the staining on yours.

I guess sencha has whitening power as you can see, not a hint of staining, bright white ... I just rinse with hot water and pat dry.

And yes, the interface has a LOT going on (unfortunately my phone pics do not show the red tones)!

I chose the interface and let other participants have the drippies ... which was pretty hard to do.

Very nice piece chip. Nice vapor / waterfall action going on. Absolutely makes up for no drippies in my opinion!
