If you look long and hard on ebay you can sometimes find pretty good things for cheap.

My new tea boat. $5 (!!!) at an antique market, sold by a woman who buys whole estates and sells the stuff off cheap.

MarshalN suggests this is 3-4 decades old, as people don't do this in HK anymore. It's a qinghua doucai shallow bowl (high walled plate?) wrapped in pewter.

Ooh this is a particularly nice example of this style I think. I was considering picking up one like this (although it was bluewhite not doucai).

Hmmm, I didn't see the pewter on the other side last time. I think this is significantly older than 3-4 decades.

I don't think earlier than 1920's/30's. 2 or 3 decades won't make much difference.

Take a look at 146 and 924 on the goethborg.com website. "Late 20th c"

Metal edged pottery can certainly be very old, and that piece is very nice, but the rubber stamp mark indicates it is probably 1960's +.

Hand painted adds charm, and it is still functional, so it is a win, no matter what age.

Thank you Tom, i just googled "japanese glass floats" and you're definitely right! it must be for green tea because i can't use too hot water with such a design or i'll burn my fingers while pouring

That makes more sense to me since the dimples by which it seems intended to be handled are right where the heat would be greatest--not user-friendly for even relatively cool-brewed tea.

Love the design otherwise, though.
