Although a premo sencha is is my go to, a crazy good gyokuro would be impossible to refuse. I just hope that Luca Brasi is not brewing ... and no olive oil is added.
TD beginnings ... Hachiju-hachiya from Maiko with the Mrs. I have now made this 3 times with this bag, each time it is quite different from the others. Yet I do not think I am doing anything much different. Some sencha are like this ...

Nearly any sort of crazy good Green tea would be impossible to refuse. But then again if its a really good Yancha that would be impossible to refuse too.

Yin Zhen would be defenitely irresistible to me now. I had it once 2 yrs ago.
I can hardly wait to drink it next time.

So do these tend to be very good or so so (the ones that seem everywhere regardless of same parameters)?Chip wrote:Yet I do not think I am doing anything much different. Some sencha are like this ...

Got myself a 40g can of Yame matcha, noticed it was about a month until expiration date. Opened anyway and it was like fresh one i tried before. Seems half year shelf life is being over cautious Would you be turned down by close expiration date?

Depends on the packaging and storage, if it's airtight and stored properly, wouldn't care if it were a bit over expiration date.Xell wrote:Got myself a 40g can of Yame matcha, noticed it was about a month until expiration date. Expiration dates on tea are a bit of a pet peeve of mine as they really say so little about the tea. A vendor could slap a tag for two years into the future or a few months ... and I would also agree that the packaging and storage methods are critical factors though we often are not privy to this information.SilentChaos wrote:Depends on the packaging and storage, if it's airtight and stored properly, wouldn't care if it were a bit over expiration date.Xell wrote:Got myself a 40g can of Yame matcha, noticed it was about a month until expiration date. I prefer to know more about harvest info and I guess for matcha, when it was manufactured and packaged ... as I am guessing tencha is stored similarly to aricha and does not go through final processing until it is "needed."

If it was not air tight, i would not buy it even if it was far from being expired and this applies for all green teas Back in my home country this (not airtight storage, big open jars ) and lack of knowledge was why i didn't like tea.SilentChaos wrote:Depends on the packaging and storage, if it's airtight and stored properly, wouldn't care if it were a bit over expiration date.Xell wrote:Got myself a 40g can of Yame matcha, noticed it was about a month until expiration date. This is common seemingly all over the place for most teas ... sadly!Xell wrote:If it was not air tight, i would not buy it even if it was far from being expired and this applies for all green teas Back in my home country this (not airtight storage, big open jars ) and lack of knowledge was why i didn't like tea.SilentChaos wrote:Depends on the packaging and storage, if it's airtight and stored properly, wouldn't care if it were a bit over expiration date.Xell wrote:Got myself a 40g can of Yame matcha, noticed it was about a month until expiration date. Even more amazing is at least in the US more of the population are coffee drinkers, and claim to know a decent bit about coffee, yet you still see coffee beans stored in big jars with loose fitting lids in some places. From my understanding its far more offensive to do this with coffee than most (not all) teas.

... and thus our searches led us to places online who actually are trying to "get it." And to places like TeaChat as well, where tea is taken seriously.
