Just wanted to check in and show you guys this little bit different direction of work. This piece is actually earthenware (think terracotta flower pot), but fired very hot, just about as hot as it could possibly go without bloating, warping and such. I became interested in the idea after seeing the seemingly wide range of firing temp of yixing/zisha clays. This kyusu is really vitrified, the lid almost was fused after firing from the clay fluxing. This is the only one I fired as a test, but now that I know the result I'm going to fire the rest ( I have another dozen or so which should be done in a week or two) Anyhoo, I hope your all having a great teaday!

After a post-office delay, my new pieces are here, including the raptor. So far, all are performing well. The 'nearly vitrified' kyusu has very nice balance and size, and being unglazed, I figure I should restrict it to one type of tea, but I haven't decided which yet. So far, it's been tried out with some light green oolong with nice results. I have been using a quite small Seong-il porcelain pot for those and this would be quite nice for those times when I do want to work with a larger volume.

This pretty little gaiwan has given nice results with Dan Cong oolong

and the long-awaited raptor worked beautifully with some young sheng puerh

Image

I did enjoy a 'hard core' gongfu session with my tiniest gaiwan and some precious Lao Ban Zhang sheng puerh, that worked beautifully with this very tiny teacup which has a nubbly Hagi-ness to it...

Image

and it's 'big' brother (holding maybe 100 mL vs the 50 mL of the tiniest cup) has worked well with several different teas and brewing vessels.

Image

Shawn described this one as 'buttery', and it really does have a golden warmth inside and out

This is a vessel for brewing Long Jing, one leaf at a time.

THAT is bloody gorgeous! Have perused your site some, and now need a napkin for all the drooling. Beautiful work, sir.

Cazenovia... nice area. I was about an hour south of Albany for about 22 years. I don't envy your lake-effect snow, though.
