Here is an Ido-style chawan I threw in New Hampshire, bisque fired here, and then took 1/2 way around the world and fired in MunGyeong, Korea using their glazes and fired in a Korean-style climbing kiln.

I will be there demonstrating on Sunday afternoon from noon until 4 PM. Will be doing a slide lecture on woodfiring sometime that day also.... time TBA. I'll be around the event a bit on Saturday too since the other NHIA faculty members will also be demo-ing.

These pieces of my teaware will be available in the exhibition / sale held in conjunction with the event.

Ken,

Thanks. Yes, an ash glaze, combined with splashes of a different a calcia-fluxed feldspathic one, but they did not tell us the actual content ... there just were three buckets of glazes for us to use. We got a pretty fast verbal description and that was pretty much it. Sort of "blind glazing"

I had about 10 chawan in that firing..... but the shelving for the noborigama chamber in which all of our work was loaded collapsed during the firing. Lower stilt/shelf let go...... it was a bit of a jumbled mess. This was the only chawan that actually survived and it was sitting on a shelf that was tipped at an angle that about matches the directionality of the glaze runs you see on the inside rear of this bowl.

The kiln shelf above this one was held off this bowl by the rest of my chawan acting as "kiln stilts"........ and of course all crushed or glued to the shelves :wink:

. 9 gave their lives so that this one could be born.

If/when I have something in Philly....I'll let you know. If you find me a gallery there looking for a solo exhibition of teawares about 1 year to 1 1/2 years out from now...... let me know :wink:

The following three of my Chawan (split postings coming) have been shipped to this invitational exhibition, with boxes. I am not sure which two of the three they will be showing..... I left that up to them. If you are in the NYC area....... please stop by to the see the show. The group of artists that have been invited looks excellent to me. It was co-curated by Robert Fornell, Rick Mahaffey, and Randall Morris. So there will be some really nice Chawan available there. I unfortunately cannot make the opening reception happening this afternoon.
