Re: Ode to the Kyusu
It arrived today!. And being Hokujo was exactly what I was expecting. What did surprise me though was just how much my 4-5 month old Hokujo had seasoned.
It has been used everyday 2-3 times a day and although I could see and notice the outside darkening the difference as you can see from the pics is very apparent.
And now....some pics

Very nice! I cannot tell you how many times I have checked out Hojo's selection.achyle wrote:Here's my little one made by Gisui from Hojo.
140ml, I use it exclusively for Hon Yama Sencha.
But, um, can you do a photo of the sakura canister in the background?
Great lil Hokujo, Alex. That is amazing how the older one is seasoning. There is a huge disparity in price for Hokujo's (yes, I have looked at Hokujo's many times too). I was on the Tokname site and they have some for around 85 USD to around 400 USD for the Yohen kyusu-s.

Oh wow, that is a beauty! Thank you for posting, achyle.
Yes, please feel free to post links ... however instead of posting the video here, how about posting this under the regular show off topic for teapots and cups or create a new topic. (yeah, I know it is not a teacup or pot, but it has evolved into a universal show off topic)
If you do not mind, where did you get it and how much?
Thanks again.

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Thanks Debunix, Chip.
You know about as much as me by now - cute pair of banko kyusu, fully hand made, not especially old or new. I don't understand the correct age of this.
The smaller one measures 80ml to the top, but I think 60-70 is more practical. I like to leave some breathing room when brewing Japanese green. You can see it is a very good match to the Deishi mini yuzamashi.
The pour on the first one is extremely good for an item like this. Some drips down the front but fast pour and no trouble emptying. The effect of the clay was a surprise at first but I came around to it quickly. First time unglazed banko yaki for me...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Thanks again, Brandon. Very nice pair. It is not easy to find matched pair or "vintage" Banko kyusu of varying size. Nice find.
Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Very nice indeed. I missed your photos so much ! There is always such a peaceful atmosphere in them...
Banko/reduction baked raw clay is a really good match for japanese green teas in my opinion. Once I tried it, I couldn't go back... Sometimes I use porcelain when I manage to get a high end asamushi sencha or a temomicha, but these are exceptions, unfortunately...
