Official what Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Re: Official what Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
Norbu's spring 2011 'white oolong' from Taiwan. Quite luscious, as before, and I have been drinking the same tea for 3 sets of infusions in a row. I love this stuff!

Re: Official what Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
This afternoon I managed to mangle the brewing of some of the 2009 Bai Yun oolong from Norbu that has usually been so forgiving: I used a lot of leaf for a bulk brewing for the Kamjove, but crucially didn't taste it before the last infusion or two--my last chance to correct with a briefer or longer infusion to adjust the bulk tea. It came out a little....not bitter, exactly, but more like black tea in an unpleasant way. Fortunately, I was able to rescue it afterwards by diluting a bit with some fresh heated water, but it made for a thirsty afternoon before I had time to fix it.
This evening, starting on some Zei Shi 'Thief Poop' Dan Cong from Tea Habitat, brewed in my $5.99 special 'yixing' pot. I don't think this pot brings out quite the same notes as my TeaHabitat Chao Zhou at home, but it does a good job nonetheless.

My big order from Floating Leaves just arrived, and the first thing I tried is the Winter 2011 Da Yu Ling. It's very beautiful! I could keep my nose in my teacup all day.

Back with my DYL adventures. 18g in 200ml pot as usual (yields two cups). If the previous DYLs I've had can be compared to a musical melody, this one would be a harmony. I'm also discovering how hard it can be to get the max performance out of a tea.

Floating Leaves Spring '12 Baozhong Honorable Mention. Very lovely floral fragrance, and gently green and sweet tastes. Delicate and oh so nice!

1990 Sea Dyke Tie Luo Han. A decent commercial Yan Cha transformed into something much nicer through the passage of time. Herbs, medicine, and a ton of trippy cha qi.

Some Jin Guan Yin from Norbu, brewed cool for a hot day, just right after a bit of hot yard work. Enjoying also the play of light in my wonderful scallop yunomi from Splitfire Pottery.

Early 90's Pin-Lin Baozhong from Hou De
A really nice tea on this cool night.
Some woody notes and some pleasant cinnamon notes that are not over bearing at all.
Nice plummy flavor and zero sourness.
Medium mouth feel.
Nice Hui Gan with a slight astringency.
Yum!

Dark Imperial Pearl from MountainTea.com ... OTTI 15 with the Mrs. this early evening.
Brewed 6 grams per 3 ounces this time which was by far the best so far for this selection (each time I have brewed this I have been increasing the ratio by one gram). Stopped for a breather after 7 steeps, but it clearly has more steeps to go. The aroma even after 7 steeps is amazing.
Will be revisting these leaves tomorrow.
