NEWEST CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XVII
Re: NEWEST CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XVII
This should be entertaining

The brown porcelain Japanese infuser cup is my father's, and at $60 cost more than double what all of the Jingdezhen stuff cost put together. The blue and white Japanese-style cup (made in China) was bought at a discount store here for $2. The Jingde dragon cup was around $5.50 and the plainer pots and cups were only around $6.50 (total) from a street vendor a few blocks away from work!
The simple gaiwan cost me $2.20 at a household goods store here in Hong Kong.

Jay, any reason why your blue cup reads 壽司 (sushi)?

Wow, two of my friends swore the first character was 'long life' in Chinese. I did buy it at a Japanese discount store that happens to have a branch here, so it is made for the Japanese market. I guess it's meant for drinking green tea with your sushi.
Just checked out the eBay link..thanks for sharing guys! Can't believe the guy's charging $10 for it, but I guess he has to make a profit.

Here is a slightly better picture of the cup with its identical twin cousin. I dig the feet.

These are a pair of my own creation pulled from a kiln this summer. The left one is covered with two ash glazes, while the right one is basically covered with feldspar and clay. It curiously pulled up at the edges over the slip which it has never done.. Still, I'm super-pleased even if it's a bit too delicate to sell comfortably.

Thanks for the kind words! I took a three year break from pottery so it's great to be back in the studio.
