2012 CuiLong XiangLong Round Tea
I'm having a break from big factory stuffs today.

Manufacture Date: 23 April 2012

I didn't get the colour balance right, look much more blue than it should be.

This cake is produced by a tea shop in Fangcun (how many thousands tea shops in a few square miles? I can't remember.)

It got double wrapping paper

The inner big ticket say it use hundreds years old trees from high mountain sun dried material (with love and care ... , well they didn't say this :wink: ). Also,it's very nice to see they use proper Chinese characters on the ticket, I think MarshalN would agree with me on this! :mrgreen:

It rather thick on the edge and medium level of compression

Pale yellow colour soup, it doesn't have any older material, fairly much straight from the trees. Despite this it is still very drinkable and really a big contrast with 2012 Dayi Silver.

Drinking very young cakes is not really my thing, so I can't say I "enjoy" it, but it has very nice texture, very good huigan, throat feel and tastes. So I like it in a sense.

Before I finish typing this, someone already asking me where to get this.

I wasn't looking for any exciting new discovery on TB, the shop sent me sample of this while I ordered other stuffs. Normally, samples from China are mainly dust in a grubby little plastic bag, but this actually come in a dinky 10g ball, almost like a mini tuo wrapped in it's own little wrapper and it looks rather attractive. This may be the reason I bother to try it.

Last thing I would like to say is that I tried both the sample and the actual cake simultaneously. They taste very much the same as I would expect, despite the sample give a slightly darker soup (no photo, all the photos are from the actual cake) than the cake.

Finishing the Mansai 2010 puerh sample from EoT (OTTI #5). This sample sat in the back of a less-used collection of tea in one of my satellite offices, and it's been more than a year since I enjoyed this one. It's sweet, mild, mellow, enforces a bit of mindfulness by the ability to overwhelm with astringency/bitterness if left to infuse too long, but gives nothing but deliciousness if treated properly. Mmm. Loves me some fine young sheng!

Although a master piece is not, but it has very good quality:price ratio.
At the very least it tastes like puerh as I know.

Enjoying another session with a sample from my first Yunnan Sourcing order: 2006 A Gu Zhai Wild Arbor Bulang Sheng. It's a typical young sheng that actually benefited from a little in-thermos settling time as I bulk brewed it for afternoon clinic. Typical earthy/herby/sweet sheng.

Some truly beautiful snapshots in this thread -- love the detail on the Tim's White Tips cake and Apache's CuiLong. Wow! Making me thirsty just thinking about it :)

Just tried steaming my very first brick last night -- a cheapie 2010 Haiwan 100g brick from PS. Have to say, it came out rather marvelously. Not too much dust, tons of whole leaves. Didn't think I would ever be able to break into that thing! :lol:

Tastes really smoky, but I like the umami notes and mouthfeel it gave me in later infusions. Excited to see how/if it changes now that it's broken up.

2008 Yi Wu Bamboo aged puerh from Norbu. Nice stuff to come back to after an absence. Positively stuffed the 'raptor' houhin with it. A very nice day.

Today Im enjoying EOTs gu shu shu pu. I have both a cake and the loose leaf. The difference between the two is easily apparent. One would think that the loose tea would loose its wu doi (fermentation funk) yet the cake tastes cleaner. I wish I had grabbed a couple of these it is definitely improving. There is a cooling powdery slightly astringent aftertaste on the tip of tongue, that sticks around for quite a while.
