Tuesday TeaDay 10/4/12 Fave tea of the month origin?

by Chip » Oct 4th, '12, 12:09

Welcome everyone to a month ending version of TeaDay. Today, everyone has 2 votes!

Today, although a few days late, let us look at your favorite tea for the month of September, with a twist. What is the country of origin of this tea? The bonus question today will be what type of tea was it? Any details you would like to share are welcome as well.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Since Korea wasn't offered, I checked 'other'. Two faves tied in Taiwan (2012 Song Po oolong) and Korea (2012 Saejak)

Right now, trying to keep a cold at bay, so have been hitting the greens pretty hard - though my stash is dangerously low. hopefully this will be remedied after the last payment is shelled out for repairing the car. Soon!! :D

I've written (too much, probably) about my favorite, Red Oolong from Thailand. Despite complaining that my initial sample tasted more special & sweet to me than the tea tastes to me now, everyday I enjoy drinking several cups of this tea.

The cool mornings of autumn lead me to my collection of samples of wuyi oolong from EOT. I'm not prepared to select a favorite among the samples yet. Since many of them are from 2011 and are sold out I suppose I'll just have to go through the process again when the 2012 teas are in stock. That way when I choose a favorite or favorites I can buy more.

My bad ... I will include Korean for the next one!

BTW. Had some Korean teas at the World Tea Expo East just yesterday and brought home some $$$ Saejak, Woojak, and another. Woojak was explained to be the top grade, then Saejak, then the other one that I cannot remember the name at the moment.

Ujeon, Saejak, and Jungjak. Where was the expo, Chip? And have you tried the teas yet? The Saejak was pretty incredible! :D

I don't know if I have favorites yet but the good teas I'm sampling are from China and Japan, different greens & oolongs.

And I'm *not* counting the party Darjeeling. Jus' saying.

I had a lot of lovely tea this month, but it just took a few sips of the Hawaiian oolong at the end of the month to seal the deal: sweet, fruity, spicy, floral, amazing. Love that stuff.

Wuyi, Fujian, China.
How'd you guess?

Japanese tea was in heavy rotation over the summer, cooler months bring warmer tea.

Big win for O-Cha's Aoi this month. Had it for the first time, was really pleased with it and will certainly buy it again.

I hope you don't mind me quoting myself from the green tea topic:

Very good, very high quality sencha.

My favourite tea this month was the Sencha Hosen at Ippodos store in Tokyo. Lovely place to drink tea and the staff is very friendly.

+1 ... was their cat roaming?

Ippodo would be in my personal top 10 spots to visit while in Japan.

They have a cat there? I didn't see any cat. It was pretty full at the time I was there and I was sitting at the counter with my back to the shop and watching the staff prepare matcha.

Yeah, Ippodo is definitely one of the top tea spots in Tokyo. Next year I'm most likely going to Kyoto and I'm really looking forward to visiting their main store. :)

I am not sure if they actually have a cat, but the website features a kitty walking across the screen. http://www.ippodo-tea.co.jp/en/
