Wednesday 10/17/12 Number of teaware pieces increased?
Welcome, TeaChatters to another day for tea and TeaDay!
Let's brew and share what is in our cups today, all day. Lately I have been missing seeing pictures of our daily teas and their wares here in TeaDay. Maybe that can be rectified today since the topic is on Teawares!
Today's TeaPoll question, Has your number of teaware pieces significantly increased since last year ... or if you are a newbie, then since you started? Bonus question ... Have your teaware preferences changed? Please explain. TWO votes today in the poll
As always, I am looking forward to sharing our TeaDay together. Bottoms up, and.

A technical question before I begin counting. Is a gaiwan 1 piece of teaware or 3? Is a gaiwan with a broken lid 0 pieces, 1 piece or 7 pieces?

... technically speaking, that would be an unfair and unwise way to increase your numbers.

I feel like it hasn't been that much since I was very selective and tried to restrain myself (even from buying pieces that I really liked) but I still bought a few pieces here and there that I just HAD TO HAVE.
I used to buy more in a shorter amount of time, though

you don't have a decrease option
I don't think I have bought a new piece of teaware since last year, but I have lost a couple of glass cups, a banko houhin, a few porcelain gongfu cups, and a lid to a porcelain houhin.
Also have given away a few cups, and a few teapots.
That darn trip from tea table to sink though....

I just came face to face with the growth of my teaware habits when I packed up the teaware for my move. It was a lot more than I expected. And review of my flickr teaware set demonstrates a lot of those pieces were first photographed--and presumably, first arrived--this year. Can't keep that up for reasons of space, or shortly, for the bank account, which is shrinking rapidly with the costs of remodelling and moving.
I hope to have enough cash left for some nice display options for the current teawares....
Editing to mention some teas from today: Lao Cha Tou shu pu nuggets from Norbu, such a nice plummy tea, and now some Da Wu Ye, also from Norbu, and a bit more tempermental than the shu pu. If I get careless, it bites back a little bit, but if I get it just right, floral loveliness.

Definitely increased--esp. my Korean teaware collection. I blame Tead Off for being an evil, evil tempter ...

Being a noob, I needed the basics - a gongfu set. To that, have just added a smaller travel set for work, a porcelain teapot, and three tea bowls. Spread out over 11 months, that doesn't seem like too much. Now TEA yes, that has grown exponentially!
Though I'll admit, now that I've narrowed down preferences, the purchases have slowed considerably, and focus just on those.... with the odd weirdos thrown in.
No gongfu tonight - am traveling, so just had Bigelow sleepy-time... which is working fabulously!

Let's see;
1 gaiwan, 1 kyusu, 1 boat, 1 chapan, 2 electric kettles and one lost, 1 puerh tray, 1 tiny gas camping stove, 1 western teapot, 1 "kensui," 1 silly brush. And 1 dish I subsequently gave away. Wow, maybe half of those were gifts! I have some great tea friends!

Yes, my teaware has increased, and my tastes have "changed." While still mostly Japanese based teaware, I have started to drift from the imperfect forms of Hagi, etc, and drifted more into the perfect forms as illustrated by those photos.

I haven't measured it, but I think according to Toru at Artistic nippon it was 140ml or so. It's my smallest kyusu, its possibly even smaller than both my houhins. I oddly feel like a giant when using it, somehow even more so than when I use my 60ml yixings.
That may be due more to the fact that I had for the longest time assumed Kyusu's were often far larger than typical teapots and gaiwans used for gongfu brewing.

Do you think your time in the ceramics studio is behind that change in preferences?
