Here's today's Matcha Tea Bowl, it's glazed with Nuka over Alberta Slip and it was fired to ∆10 (2345F) in reduction in my small gas fired updraft kiln...This Nuka has become my favorite white glaze, works good as a liner...Here's a link to additional images of this piece in my shop:

Here's today's Matcha Chawan, it measures 3-1/8" h. x 5" dia. It's glazed with a new glaze that I'm working on for a commission. It was fired to 2345F in my small gas fired updraft kiln...Many thanks for looking. BTW, it was 8F degrees this morning, high in the San JUan Mountains of SW Colorado...

Here's Today's Tea Bowl glazed with Carbon Trap Shino over Porcelain slip and stoneware. It was fired to cone 10 in my small kiln. This Chawan will be included in an invitational Shino Show honoring Malcolm Davis who passed away this year. Thanks for looking...

So, after a long absence, I just heard from Michael Coffee, aka the shyrabbit.

Here are some snips ...

Have not been here for awhile, since November of last year...Not enough months left in this year to bring you up to speed on life here in Pagosa Springs, some good and some not so good. As a finale I ended up in the hospital mid March for emergency abdominal colon surgery [snip].

No one can tell me why, just happened and is quite rare, there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. It all happened so fast, went to bed one night feeling fine but by morning the pain was incredible. Off to the emergency room, an ambulance ride to the hospital and surgery an hour later...I spend 7 days in the hospital with 3 in ICU. Doc says he almost lost me on the table...

Life is great and I have a renewed clarity that I think only comes from such events...I'm back working in the studio again with new/fresh Ideas...Thanks Chip for providing a venue for us Tea Artisans, I truly appreciate it.

Ps, you will see me around more now...
Glad to hear from Michael, and I am looking forward to his healthy return!

Many thanks for the well wishes, I truly appreciate it, It's great to be back.

Cory, I know what you mean, a good positive attitude is a key component to recovery from physical trauma, worked for me. I hope your back at it Cory and in the clay again...

Here's today's "Most Unexpected" Ash Tenmoku and Shino Glazed Matcha Chawan fired to ∆10. It measures 3-3/8" h. x 4-7/8" dia. I've used this glaze combination hundreds of times and it's never given this result...? Thousands of minute eddies and rivulets.

Thanks for looking,

Michael

Makes one eager to see more things from that firing, doesn't it?

Many thanks for your well wishes Seeker, they help a lot. I'm a completely different person today, improved if you will, than I was before this all happened.

Thanks again,
Michael

Cory,

That's the funny thing about the glaze on this piece, it's only shino over ash tenmoku (no rutile), a combo I've used 100's of times. I've never seen this reaction before, I got one other that fired the same. I'm thinking it was in a hot spot and it over fired, it's the only thing I can think of...I've tried to duplicate this effect...no go.

Michael
