Hi guys,
I own exactly one bing of pu. My girlfriend wants to use the wrapper for artsy crafty things; I was just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for alternative ways to store a bing of shengpu? a ziplock bag, for instance, sounds like a terrible idea. But perhaps I could take some old loose-leaf tea pouches and divide the cake among them? I would rather keep the cake whole; it makes it easier to store and keep track of. For what it's worth, I live in a climate far cooler and drier than Kunming or even Beijing. Thanks for any advice

Brown paper sack. That is what I store my pu-erh in after opening a cake.

Anything that can breath a little and doesn't have a bad odor; Paper bag, cheese cloth, cardboard box.

Thanks guys! Paper bag will do for now. Manila envelope would be ideal if I had one. But it seems silly to go buy some just to use one.

Probably not a realistic option, but I like storing my pu in clay. Short, wide, bing-shaped urns are great!
Otherwise, +10 to the paper, cheesecloth, and cardboard. The traditional thought is that it is better not to break it up into smaller pieces unless you will be drinking them within the next little bit.

I love told to store my tea in baskets. Nothing like them. They hold humidity, they breathe. You can stack the cakes in big ones, or break up individual cakes others. My tea ages very well. Thin paper bags work great too. I like the cheap ones from my pharmacy. Real thin, no plastic coating, no glues.
