A water cooler/ faircup, which look at the handle and its angle, and look for another thread about it soon.

What did you brew in this lovely set, Adam?

I am using it for Balhyocha. Mostly those thin and wiry leaves, that are seemingly all but none of the following categories: oolong, red, yellow tea.

The unofficial/official Korean Teaware Topic

by debunix » Dec 2nd, '12, 15:06

Like my first little Seong-Il teapot that went crackly in about 3 uses--I can hardly remember what it looked like before! But interestingly it's big sibling, made with the same clay, is very slow to develop.

Yours is just gorgeous.

That strongly reminds me of a cup my friend has, made by a master potter. The price was unreasonably high, but my friend got hers because it cracked. A tiny crack to be sure, but still there.

Still works, and it feels amazing in the hands!

Beautiful cup.

Actually, it's really funny--of all the teaware I've acquired, including a couple of hagi pieces via SO offerings, the only piece I've ever had leak is one of my Seong-Il pots--this one, in fact.

(Edit--changed the picture to one of my own, since the original gallery picture was broken. Apologies for the poor lighting!)

Image

It actually doesn't leak so much as just kind of 'sweat' tea--if I leave tea/tea leaves sitting in it for any length of time, the exterior crackles will darken and fine tea-dots will form at the junctures of the crackles in several places. But it never leaks out onto the tray or the cloth beneath--it just stays on the surface, and creates some very pretty tea-crackles instead. (The dots of dried tea can be wiped off after use--they don't seem to create any splotches or anything, which is also nice.)

It's the only Seong-Il piece I have that does this, oddly enough. This particular pot is unglazed stoneware on the inside, and a shino glaze on the outside--maybe that's what contributes to the effect? Either way, it's become one of my favorite pots, and it's very fun to see ...

Posted photos of this guy before. Here is an action shot in which he steals the light.

A Teacup made by Park Jong Il, likely 100-120 ml, though great shape for all sorts of different teas.

One of my new favorite pots ... porcelain with shino glaze, by Hong Seong-Il.

Nice! I'm using my Seong-Il pot right now. While I like my pot, I really wish I went with one with a nice shino glaze outside.

I've finally got a few nice shots of the new lotus-decorated celadon teapot by Yi Yong Cheol. I particularly love the subtlety of the decoration--barely visible in the first shot here

A little more obvious here

but quite clear here:

And it's not only lovely, it brews and pours beautifully. It's gotten a LOT of use since it came home.

Very elegant, especially with that style of side handle!
