12/6/12 TeaCup TeaDay ToDay
Welcome one and all to TeaDay. It hardly seems like December around here with the temps hovering in the 60's to 70's the last few days. Hmm ... and it is said global warming is a ... myth!
Anyway, today would be a good day to discuss the types of cups we prefer to use to drink our teas ... and are using today. Different cups for different teas, moods, etc. ... of course. However today, let's just stick to the cups we are actually using or will use throughout the day. Three teas, 3 different cups?
So, the poll question is "what cup(s)/vessel" are you using RIGHT NOW or TODAY? Show photos to your heart's content if you are able. Currently I am still have some photobucket issues, but I will endeavor to correct this today so I can share some of our new acquisitions.
I am looking forward to the diversity of our choices today.

Defies classification from this list, but I would call it an Ippuku-Wan (mid sized Wan). A mid sized tebineri (pinched versus wheeled ... though this may be wheeled and then altered by hand forming). Hagi artisan is Noutumi Susumu of Choun kiln.
Tea is Kuritawase asamushi from Kagoshima, possibly the best asa of the year, IMHO.

So far today, I had some Gu Zhu Zi Sun in my Eiichi Rock yunomi. Next up, not sure, but the choices here are yunomi and guinomi and gongfu cups, and a pair of smaller kumidashi-chawan. Could be any of them....

Every day starts with tea in a thermos travel cup thingee, so that's not very exciting. But, I do love my little teacup that I use at home. Plus I'm excited to be getting a second cup along with some other teaware goodies for Christmas.
I have a question though. For the purpose of this poll, what is the difference between an English-style teacup and a gong fu cup?

They are pretty much as divergent as you can get.
English teacups in this case refer to traditional looking porcelain, 5-6 ounces, side-handled with a saucer. Gong fu style cups are small to very small Chinese style cups.

I guess my ignorance is showing.So if I have a 3oz teacup made of... not porcelain... that is glazed and doesn't have a handle?
Do you have a photo? Origin? Shape?
Some small cups are just small cups. 3 ounce cups are pretty common, not too big nor too small for just about any general tea situation.

Hahaha, will do. No lip melting after a year of heavy use, though I have perfected my sweatshirt-cuff-as-insulator technique (patent pending).

Like most days I´m using my Petr Novak cup
120ml is usually the right size for drinking drinking alone without needing a fairness pitcher.

Drinking now from a Seigan 'wan' cup that was not listed as guinomi or yunomi--it's a bit large for guinomi but small for yunomi, and it's been working through a session with a thermos full of taiwanese 'Black Ruby' black tea from Norbu, and now I'm working on some 2008 YiWu bamboo aged puerh in the same cup. I usually stick to one cup per day when I'm at work, only changing to avoid drinking something worrisome for carrying over flavor in deeply crackled or partly unglazed cups--like yesterday's jasmine.

And now updating to add a gongfu cup, because this morning I'm starting over with the leaves from yesterday's yi wu puerh, but using a nuka glazed gongfu cup from shyrabbit.
