Hey, TJK, I like the one with the avocado-like texture. Is that a Taiwanese pot? Never came across one of those before. Very interesting and nice looking one.

Hold on, I just saw something on that duan ni pot (is that a birdie?)... :twisted:

Yes, YX pots can be "very" addictive.

IMO, the signature thread of TC; I also learned a lot in here and other subforums (puerh one especially, populated by a bunch of very knowledgeable fellows).

Idealistic, maybe ... but isn't Yixing as a whole already too complicated for the mere mortal man without this bit of clarity?

That makes a lot of sense, and I can totally get behind it. The bit about Chinese or Brazillian Sencha sold as only Sencha would piss me off greatly.

But then what about "zisha", rather than "Yixing Clay"? Does the name imply enough that it is from Yixing so that you would expect them to label zisha crafted in Taiwan as "Taiwanese Zisha"? I ask as a purely academic exercise, as I have only ever seen the one shop selling Taiwanese zisha. As I said, that guy sucked, so it's not like I was going to dish out $300 for his (I think) wheel thrown zisha.

Side note on labels and categories. I had Yunnan Silver Needles in Yunnan and some legit tea folks called it "puerh". To them, "puerh" just means anything from the same trees. Flip side, I had some shou cha tonight that the guy here in Xi'an said wasn't puerh. I think he only views sheng as puerh. Seems like everyone labels the tea differently, and of course the same with clay. So while we might draw a certain distinction, many might not. Just a side thought. In the end, I completely agree with Chip, and feel like the line is to thin between omission and false advertising.

Yep, that avocado pot is Taiwanese. I actually traded that one in for my Taiwanese Zhuni pot though, as I felt the avocado was a total eraser. I may just have not seasoned it long enough though, as TIM has a similar pot from the same artist, and his seems to work pretty good.

I had to go count, but I'm up to 32 now, with two more on their way from Japan. They were Chinese pots exported to Japan, so let's not begin a discussion if there is such a thing a Japanese Yixing please!

Think I might be selling off a couple soon. Coming to a Tea Swap near you after the holidays...

The copies I found in public libraries (non university) so far seem to be for use in the library only, except Philadelphia museum of art, who isn't clear on it. Another option is mugging a CUNY student for their library pass.

Cool, don't forget to post pics of those Chinese Yixing exports. I believe those pots are top-notch quality same as the ones made to Taiwan.

Bought the avocado from Luh Yu tea in Flushing before they went back to Taiwan. I miss those guys.

The new pots are modern, not the classic early 20th Century Japanese exports. Still waiting to get them, so I'm not quite sure about their size or quality. From the photos and measurements, I'm guessing each is around 150ml give or take (I'm hoping for smaller).

Nice round (possibly zisha/zini?) pot. Most likely 90's-00's...

At 2.5 inches tall, this is the smallest dragon pot I've ever seen. Most likely 70's-80's...
