Article on Handbuilding Zisha Teapots in PMI

by JBaymore » Dec 22nd, '12, 16:13

Not sure if this is actually the correct place for this subject....... (Chip, please move it if needed)

For those who might be interested........

In the just out Jan./Feb. issue of Pottery Making Illustrated magazine ( http://ceramicartsdaily.org/pottery-making-illustrated/ ) there is an article on making Zisha teapots by Maggie Connolly, a Masters Degree candadate at Qinghua University in Bejing.

The matterials and tools mentioned in the piece come from http://www.chineseclayart.com.

best,

You can find single issue copies at good bookstores (what's left of them). I've seen it a Barnes and Noble in the magazine section. You might also write to them and see if you can purchase a single issue.

I don't think I'd drink tea out of the clay you can order from that supplier.
Those colors look very artificial.

A little off topic but still related, in the pottery class I took last summer, when we worked on Slab pottery it was my least favorite, and all I tried to do is make a cylindrical flower pot, and I found it incredibly hard. I often forget that all authentic Yixing are made entirely using the slab technique, and when I remember it-- it boggles my mind.

*edit: fixed typo.
