Yixing from Teavivre...opinions?

by Joel Byron » Jan 22nd, '13, 22:33

Just got this from Teavivre:

http://www.teavivre.com/xi-shi-yixing-clay-teapot/

All of the properties stated in the description are true. The pot is 140ml, pours well, water flow can be stopped by putting a finger over the hole in the lid..etc...

I think this is a well made pot, but is it a real Yixing?

This is my second "Yixing" pot, the first I will never show, although it actually makes decent yancha.

Thanks Bagua,

I think it is real by those guidelines. Who knows about the clay quality. It doesn't matter to me, I like it and the tea that it brews. I assume you are a martial arts practitioner? I know a very basic bit of Bagua. More familiar with traditional Karate, but I haven't practiced since high school.

Maybe I misread that Bagua, but the author seems to refer to Taiwanese pots as "fake or phoney" Yixing rather than acknowledging that it's just a separate but related tradition. Not very helpful to link to the blog of a self-admitted beginner when trying to help out another beginner.

Thanks tingjunkie!

Does your username refer to oolongs? I'm partial to them, so i could use some advice on vendors.

Thanks,

J

Ha, I thought it referred to Tung Ting oolong. I'll have to try to find that soda. I'm going to the Dominican Republic on Saturday for a week. Maybe they have it there...

I just moved out of a Dominican neighborhood in NYC which I had lived in for 5+ years. Never saw it around there anyway. :? I'm sure you'll find plenty of Presidente and Brugal though. Good luck on your trip.

Wow I never knew that. I too have an affinity for Ting as well as many other Jamaican traditions. I could eat Curry Goat every day. My girlfriend that you met in NY is actually Jamaican!

Nice! Last time I counted, my reggae collection stood somewhere over 400 albums. All bought, none downloaded. I used to play percussion in reggae bands in Maine, and I used to select for a soundsystem in New Mexico. I'm currently considering getting back into the game. :D
