Menghai Secret Aroma
I forget what year...
Dare I say it, but after about 4-5 days fermenting in my pot, this shu is nearly clear yet does reveal a certain perfume akin to certain powders used by elderly ladies...alas, the "hidden" aroma reveals itself.
Really, not bad at all.

2007 Spring Yong De Mao Cha, pleasant young sheng, anise, herbs, sweet, and nicely rounded by an unglazed Petr Novak shiboridashi.

Re: Official Pu of the day
Special tea day yesterday for friends.
About 30 grams of 1993 7542 in a +- 250 ml shui ping. The other teapot is the small (70 ml) zen8tea teapot for scale.
Am on brew number 8 o so. Still just flash brews. One came out with what seemed to me to be what shu is trying to copy. A rich deep, deep flavor I have never experienced from sheng. I guess it took this many grams for it to happen!

Re: Official Pu of the day
Day 2 '93 7542 massive pot is resulting in more surprises. This is a whole different animal, so to speak. Each change in parameter drastically changes the character of the brew. The tea is on about brew 12 and is still in flash brew mode. The first brew of the set seems to be the best. This seems to be due to a cooler pot. Once the pot is warmed it is hard to stay within a rounder profile (meaning, 30g brews strong!)
I have been using two holding vessels. The first for the initial pour and the second for the drippings. The second phase results in much more "soy sauce" than a small stuffed pot. We have been drinking the drippings after about every four to five steeps. Adding some boiling water to the drippings has drawn out unique angles of this tea.
Deciding at which point to move the pot from first pouring to second holding vessel has been critical. Wait for the pour to slow too much and it comes out extra-intense. Timed just right it yields a "syrup" with more density and complexity than another brewing method I have tried.
Who knows how many ays of flash brews are still on the horizon?!
I hope no one is bored by these trivial details. This could almost go in another topic. Oh well!

30 grams is a Charlie Sheen amount of pu.

30 grams in 225 ml
That's stuffing the pot.
How many people are enjoying this Heroic session. Please don't tell me your drinking this all by your self.
Oh today I drank EOT' s 2010 bangwei. Not really a huge fan of the flavor of this tea .but I like a lot a lot of what else is going on. So maybe it will work out later on.
And
Nite time early 90's traditional characters session. The diamond hard xiaguan compression of the cake did not let this tea open up until past infusion ten when I'm about to call it quits for the nite.

If gasninja calls your session "Heroic", you know you are playing with firegasninja wrote:30 grams in 225 ml

Re: Official Pu of the day
I second that. Yeesh.
I'm not sure I *can* get wired from too much old pu, at least not at any depth into the session.
Now that I think about it, I would much rather do 30g of that year's 8582.
DEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeppp.....

Re: Official Pu of the day
2012 Menghai Golden Needle White Lotus via Yunnan Sourcing. It's quite nice, not quite the same as the 2007 version I have nearly used up, but this time, I bought the beeng and not a brick, and the compression is less. I can work pieces off it by hand or with a letter opener and it isn't so difficult that I risk gouging my desk or my hand doing so. It is warm, earthy, a little sweet, without yet the caramel notes that were already present in the 2007 when I first bought it in 2010. Still, very tasty.

No. I say with a grin, "I am not drinking this alone!"
That *would* be insanity of the Charlie Sheen variety!
This etude has become a great excuse to see friends and spend more time with my son (he loves it!). Yesterday, two friends came over.
I packed up the last 50ml of drippings from yesterday's session and took it to work to share with three other colleagues.
-
Speaking of breaking cakes: An unexpected benefit of storing these teas in controlled humidity is it makes them easier to break up.
-
The mass of leaf holds so much liquid in a sponge-like way, the final dripping takes forever. Like a distiller, small ebony drops of liquid essence slowly, but regularly fall into the holding vessel.

To Shah:
A similar treatment of 8582 would be a great side by side comparison.
