Genbaku pottery

by Drax » Feb 12th, '13, 21:06

So you have may seen this recent item on eBay that katsuragi was selling.

It is described as 'genbaku pottery.' Genbaku(原爆)is the Japanese word for an atomic bomb, and you can see the symbols inscribed on the side of the cup in one of the pictures.

First, I was pretty shocked that the cup went for as much as it is... just over $300. But mostly I was curious about this style or type of pottery. I have done a lot of search, but I actually have found very little to nothing.

Does anybody have any solid information about this type of pottery? I mean, I can guess about it from the description in the auction, but I was looking even for just some generic pages that talk about it, and really couldn't find anything at all (and certainly no other similar types of pieces).
