Just be careful, I made this mistake early on when starting out with yixings - cheap pots like these can give tea a chemically taste and worse than a gaiwan. Better to save for a nice pot from a reputable source

Or go for a very cheap simple clay pot that doesn't have pretensions to being a special yixing clay. My ultra cheap little pots are perfectly adequate to brew up a nice cup of tea, and do demonstrate the difference between clay and glazed porcelain brewing.

Good point!! I guess I'm just wary of cheap pots since I've had nothing but bad experiences but then again, I've heard a lot of good things about the $20 pots from zen8tea for example!! I should take more risks hehe, my wallet would thank me!

I was just looking at that duan ni... and this one:

can't make up my mind which is better and I'm very wary of duan ni after geting a $22 pot with a weird earth smell.

My other cheap purchase have been good, but duan ni might be an area where one can't skip.

I would like to know if anyone has experience with either of these $100 dian ni pots.

I have this duan ni pot and it is excellent. No unnatural smell when you pour boiling water inside and brews very good tea.

Sure, duan ni isn't a rare clay. In fact, I think modern DN pots are often less expensive than most other clays. There's a lot of junk DN out there too though, so be careful.
