To avoid all that i usually clean all my stuff right where i do and drink my tea. I either use the remaining water in the kettle, or boil one more kettle, and wash the pot and cups right in the tea boat, or, for my Japanese sets, in the plate. When dry i carefully carry the stuff over to the cabinets where i have my tea stuff stored.
That's what I do. It was just that I forgot it was in the cloth. :(
... it is always that single moment of either forgetfulness or lost focus or distraction that does teaware in ... that or a cat.

12 years with my two cats, and only one broken cup. I think your theory is false.

Teaware Loss (Viewer discretion is advised)

I have broken more Teaware than has the cat, but the cat broke pieces that were more important to me.

After a week of too much work and too little sleep I smashed one of my
favorite pots, I wasn't even using it at the time, I just swept it of the tea table with what probably was a involuntary movement caused by sleep deprivation.

NoooOOooooooOOoo!! I'm deeply sorry for your loss. It's always the ones we truly cherise. *sigh*

On a possibly bright now, the breaks look look pretty clean, and the pieces rather large. It might be a good candidate for kintsugi?

Sad. But at least it's sort of optional, for some brewing, and easier to replace/substitute than the lid.

You'll have to update your Avatar now.

debunix is smart, having made her avatar out of metal(???). I myself have multiples of the cup in my avatar... just in case.

She is not so smart: her avatar is a very breakable porcelain gaiwan (but she did buy quite a few identical gaiwans for comparative tastings and spare parts), poured into a TC TA SO teacup that already has a slight hairline crack in it.

This looks really good! Japanese wood fired kyusu are hard to find and usually somewhat expensive.

...but I'll probably get one (or more) new ones for the times I break the lid or the cup now that I know how easy it is to do.
