Just got an email from Den's that is offering a kyusu for $5. Great price if you don't own one, and a necessity for steeping sencha!

Re: Shudei Kyusu $5 at Den's
I got this email too this morning, and while it looks like a great price, 8oz seems like a very large size. Den's recommends a 2oz kyusu for their Shincha, so maybe this is a diabolical scheme to make you go though more tea quicker?
Re: Shudei Kyusu $5 at Den's
Heh yeah 8oz is not the smallest of kyusus, but do they even make 2oz kyusus?!? That would be borderline microscopic! I actually bought their 6oz premium one some time ago and it has served very well.
Re: Shudei Kyusu $5 at Den's
that was my first kyusu ever along with their beginners sampler about 3 years ago.
That $8 was a monumental step into appreciating japanese tea and was well worth it.
Works just fine for sencha. You don't have to use all 8 oz if you don't want to. Heat retention doesn't seem that important anyways for sencha. Just fill half way or 3/4.
Eventually cleaning the inside filter and spout could be a pain. Once you pop out the filter getting it back on just right is hard for me.

This Kyusu might be Chinese ... I seem to recall this from previous offerings. But for 5 bucks, it would make a great addition for a travel set, etc.
I am going to be emailing Den about an unrelated subject, but I will ask him and report back.

Re: Shudei Kyusu $5 at Den's
I just placed my order for the $5 kyusu. Of course, I had to buy some green tea to put in it too, so I preordered the Shincha and some grape sencha to qualify for a shipping discount. Further justification came from the $3 coupon that expires this month from my earlier matcha/ green tea sampler order. Well played, Den.

I love when deals like this come along. I got on the phone and 3 of my friends are ordering this deal and that is going to be awesome because I will have people to talk to about fine Japanese tea!
My little brother also got one so now there can maybe be two tea drinkers in the family!

Thanks for the heads up! I've been wanting to check out Japanese teas for a while now. I'm going to take the plunge, along with their Organic Sencha.

So has anyone received their kyusu yet? Like it? Pics?
I know I won't see mine for a few more weeks as I bundled it with a pre-order for Hashiri. But for those who aren't ordering any shincha, I would assume that Den's shipped them out, right?

Re: Shudei Kyusu $5 at Den's
Since I live in south-eastern Europe, Den's didn't have shipping calculated and you had to actually buy a product before seeing the shipping charge. I sent them mail asking them to estimate shipping for Croatia (where I live), but I still didn't get answer after 3 days so I decided to risk and buy the kyusu. And you bet, few hours after submitting the deal and paying 5$ I received a e-mail offering 25 $ as the cheapest option, and that's too much for a 5$ kyusu (which I was buying for extremely good price). I understand it's mostly my fault for what happened, but I hope this post will help someone to avoid that. But I think not answering my mail was unfair.

I got mine on Friday. It's adorable! Fits the gap between my 100ml gaiwans and 500ml pot nicely.

I really think this little red clay kyusu is a steal at $5. You could probably end up paying $25 for this little teapot.
