Hello all, coffee addict slowly becoming a tea addict
My wife and I have been casually drinking tea for the last two years, mostly from occasional trips to Teavana. But recently I picked up a Zarafina tea maker and placed a few orders to Adagio and now I am really getting in to it. Really enjoying my Rooibos, especially vanilla and Chamomile, Oolong and just recently tried some Silver Needle. Can't wait to try some more!

Well, right now I am drinking the Oolong #8 after lunch and Rooibos Vanilla mixed with Chamomile at night. I am trying to replace my coffee in the morning with a Black Tea but still can't quit it 100%. I am supplementing it with some Ceylon or Vanilla on occasion.

Some people including myself have found that black teas from yunnan, often reffered to as hong cha, are great for switching from coffee.

Welcome aboard!
I would recommend Golden Monkey (try a sample) or maybe Assam. Those might get you to kick coffee out the window!

Congratulations Duckworth!

Hi Duckworth! (I like your moniker, btw...reminds me of the mighty duck movies...anyway...) I'm glad to hear that you are replacing coffee with tea. Like many of the others here, I suggest trying out black teas to kick your morning coffee habit. Favorites of mine: Golden Monkey, Earl Grey, Irish Breakfast, and Assam. On occasion, Yunnan Gold as well. Happy tea!

(First time poster just barging in here...)
Now now, we vile coffee drinkers aren't all bad. This one (me) is adding tea to his life, but the coffee shall remain. I have been home roasting my coffee for several years and love the results. Still, getting into great tea has been a blast, and I'm learning a lot.
As to what teas to try while making the coffee > tea transition...well, I'm certain that that's just a matter of taste. I have enjoyed oolongs, a few different black teas (drinking Natela's Gold from my local tea shop right now), and several different Chinese greens so far. I also seem to be among the select few who take an instant liking to Lapsang Souchong. The Lapsang Souchong liking may be related to my love of coffee; it also may have something to do with my general love of smokey stuff (e.g. BBQ, cigars, smoke from coffee roasting, etc....)
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks! Not sure how much I will actually participate, but I'm eager to learn more about fine teas, and this seems to be a great place to start.

Don't worry Mark, though we are very out numbered, there are a few coffee drinkers around. I think we just need to introduce these people to the concept of good coffee. Smooth, well brewed elixir that it can be rather than the burnt over brewed Starbuckian glug...
