As Dayi's new cakes are rocketed in price, Xiaguan is not going to fail behind. Here is one 2013 cake which costs 1500 rmb.

I always find it is amusing to read the description. Here is an extract:
"十年磨一剑 ... 浑厚天成 ... 原料自然陈放十年,吸取天地之精华,再经百年下关制茶技艺压制而成 。口感厚重,茶气强劲,饮之沁心,延年益寿!"
"Ten year to grind one sword ... with substantial quality form naturally ... raw material been stored for 10 years and it has absorbed the essence of the world, then made with Xiaguan's tea making skills of hundred of years. Thick mouth feel, strong cha qi, drink it would moisten the heart, extending life! (Elixir?)"
Very poetic in part written in classical Chinese.
Re: 2013 Dayi 7542
To my knowledge, it's at least made with 10yrs aged leafs. Also heard that there's LBZ inside, and if there is, the current LBZ cost is around 3500RMB per kg.apache wrote:As Dayi's new cakes are rocketed in price, Xiaguan is not going to fail behind. Here is one 2013 cake which costs 1500 rmb.
So if all these are true asking 1500RMB for such a cake aren't asking for that much.
The nanzhao 2004 cake is said to have some BZ content inside, current asking price is over 1300RMB. None of the other nanzhao prices went crazy as that particular cake

The financial rule is, until you cash it out, it's not profit. The tea rule is, until it's ready for drinking and tastes good, it's not profit.quikstep wrote:i consider myself striking gold bcos i'm successfully received 10x 7542 201 those of the 150g variant for rmb 48 each . it's now off the shelves on dayi's taobao site.apache wrote:Just did a very quick price check, almost all Dayi shengs I ordered in the last few months price was doubled regardless of the vintage, except shu.
1.5kg special recipe vs 900g of standard stuff. pure satisfaction.
I'm not saying you can't cash it out some day in future. And probably it will taste very, very good in future too. But probably you will need to wait for quite a few years (or more than that) to "cash out" the taste of 7542 as well.
Re: 2013 Dayi 7542
And production sizes are so large - anyone you want to sell to probably has truckloads of the 7542 already. There really isn't a good reason to buy this stuff at all when new.
Re: 2013 Dayi 7542
I'm playing Devil's advocate here. Yes, just a single year of production of 7542 is huge, but there are many batches. Say if you only want the first batch, I'm not say this is the best batch in any year, but many people would be only interested in the first batch, is relatively small. A few years ago, I was try to find the first batch of 2008 7542, but I could only find the 2nd batch. And I don't know is there any quality different between different batches, they might be just the same with only different wrappers.MarshalN wrote:And production sizes are so large - anyone you want to sell to probably has truckloads of the 7542 already. If you really determine, you could still find any cake of a specific batch few years later but only with a much inflated price. But who know, the current Dayi bubble might burst.

At some point, the people who bought these things (and there are always tons) will have to sell to make a profit - you can't sit on it forever if your goal is to make money from it.apache wrote:I'm playing Devil's advocate here. And that's when you can buy them cheap.
And also, there are many, many, many substitutes out there. Sure, you may not be able to find the 801 batch of 7542 (which seems to be widely available on Taobao at 200-300 RMB), but there are many other teas that are likely to be of similar quality. This is going to keep the price of any one particular tea down for the foreseeable future.

New design:
Although still labelled 1301, can't help to think this is really a "consume-now" tea instead of those "for-aging". Nicer wrapping. Maybe something's brewing at Dayi?

Re: 2013 Dayi 7542
Regardless of what you think these cakes are worth....you have to admit that the Da Yi - Tae Tea rebrand has gone very well for the Menghai Tea Factory. Excellent timing.
Re: 2013 Dayi 7542
I think Menghai was pissed off, cos those who made money over those Laocha were mostly sellers of Taiwan and Guangdong..
There were only 2 things Menghai could choose for money, enlarging the quantity or ripping off...
