Hojicha from that store. Seriously, it's the best hojicha ever. It smells like chocolate. If anyone goes to Kyoto, please get yourself some (it's very inexpensive . . . like $10 for a giant bag) and get me a bag and send it to me, please!!! :)

I'm not kidding. I want more!

I couldn't wait for the 2013 kariganes so I ordered the Asa-giri and Otsuusan from O-Cha.

Today I chose the Karigane Asa Giri from O-Cha as a break from the Shincha OTTI. It's a gyo karigane so I usually brew it in my gyo shiboridashi set but today I decided to use my Seong-Il onggi hobin. I was very pleased with the results as brewing in it seemed to improve the balance between the gyo and the karigane aspect of the flavor profile.

I know I said Shincha in the side chat, but I actually worked on the little bit of Asanoka I have left from NOTTI 2 ( the electric boogaloo). Hit the spot but I really think it is starting to fade.

Today I tried brewing the Otsuusan in this pot and while it was good it wasn't as good as when I brew it in the tokoname Hobin that I usually use for the Otsuusan. Maybe there is something to the theory about the pot choosing the tea - or the pot and the tea choosing one another.

Yesterday evening. Kirishima Shincha from thes du japon. Different, interesting little vegetable flavor. But a "mt.everest" of a day/month/year(?) was "Daisosho Hounsai favoured Shohaku" from Marukyu-Koyamaen in this outstanding Korean beauty and in a wonderful company.

Wonderful company indeed Andrzej and great picture you shared too. Nice.

Today I finished my 2012 selection of Den's Premium Fukamushi-Sencha Yame and want to post that this is an excellent fukamushi that I look forward to reordering. It is a Yutaka-midori cultivar from Yame in Fukuoka prefecture. Apparently there is a lot of fog there resulting in sweeter leaves, similar to the shading of Gyokuro yet distinct since light is filtered through fog, not straw or tarp.

Steep parameters I enjoyed are; 1.25:1 - 5gr /4oz/150F/1min, resulting in a rich deep flavorful slightly chestnutty brew. Dark forest green cloudy liquor. Vegetal sweetness & depth. Not fussy.

This morning enjoyed some 2012 An Ji Bai Cha from Norbu, one of the last of my 2012 greens. Soon I'll be ready for the 2013s, which will be in stock everywhere. Meanwhile, this is still bright and sweet and vegetal and pleasing, right to the last of some 6 or 8 infusions.

Dae Jak from Morning Crane--it reminds me of summer afternoons in the barn spreading straw in a clean stall, with a flavor reminiscent of straw/grain/hay, not as vegetal as green peas, but a little more subdued and warmer in tone. Mmmm, nice & mellow to start the day. My it's-too-early-to-be-up crankiness is all gone after a couple of infusions.

Blissful Buds from Mellow Monk: To make this, tea is cut while young & some stems are included. Such tea is called "mecha" & reportedly provides more benefits for one's health. I don't know about that, just how it tastes to me. It is not harsh in any way & provides light, simple, pleasant vegetal flavor. I like it warm but think it would work as a good cold, summer drink.

Spring Tai Ping Hou Kui from Mad Monk. Beautiful long leaves that yield a wonderfully complex but still light and refreshing liquor.

Had a very nice session this morning with some JungJak from Morning Crane tea. So mellow and pleasant for the start of the morning.
