I really enjoy the tea boat; I've not seen one quite like it. The whole grouping feels earthy and harmonious!

On my screen, that's reading as a very deep blue. Is it blue, or black? Either way, a lovely rocky swirly piece.

It is far closer to black, I think that is the evening light coming in from a window. Does this photo give you a better idea?

A new teacup--a Seigan blue Hagi, a rather large 'wan' or small chawan:

There's a dark almost spiral at the bottom of the bowl

It's got a simple foot

but the complexity of the glaze is the stellar attraction

Beautiful tanba piece, Adam! The lighting on that first picture gives it an amazing hue.

And likewise with the hagi piece, deb!The blue seems to be a much darker one that Seigan normally uses, or is that the lighting? It sort of looks like the "sea cucumber" style of glaze, but in blue-tone.

It really is quite an unusual deep shade of blue. I've got several other pieces with lighter variations of Seigan blue.

Debunix,

Personally, that piece is stunning. It's rich, celestial, and yet still earthy. It looks like it's solid and a pleasure to hold in the hand!

This is a recent (May) teapot I received from Hojo. It's Sado red clay, reduction fired, 130ml (a nice size for two people), and pours well. I am still working with the pairings for this pot. I tried a couple Gao Shan teas, which the smell of the heated clay and the taste of water heated in the pot, told me might not work. It works o.k. but next I'm going to try Tie Guanyin, something with roast, with the kyusu and see what it offers. Anyone else with a similar pot have suggestions based on your own personal testings with the same clay/pot? I am curious to know what other people with similar Shimizu Ken kyusu have found.

Love the handstand pic--it's a very balanced pot. No idea on tea pairings.
