Bhutan has been this kind of media darling because they came up with a "gross happiness index" or whatever. But the story as it's been explained to me is that they kicked out some ethnic minorities, because that was the easiest way to make the ethnic majority happier
So, many wound up in Nepal. Some ultimately came to the States. I have a Friend who is involved with Nepali refugees in Philadelphia. Some apparently not-too-bright social worker settled a Nepali refugee couple in my friend's neighborhood, which is kind of well-off, has below-average transit access, little social services offices, and no other Nepalis. So my friend and her church got together to support the couple, who had a baby. Then the couple started contacting their relatives abroad, and thus a new Nepali enclave was born...!
