Where do you guys source roasted/baked/brown-style TGY? I have a friend of mine who's a big fan, and to date he's only been able to get it when I order from a dealer in HK. Always on the lookout for alternatives, to keep it interesting.
Thanks,
M.

Re: Roasted TGY
I really enjoyed the Da Hong Pao from Yunnan Sourcing. They just got in some Tie Luo Han and Rou Gui which I ordered. Also you might have him try Jing teashop.

Most of the places I know of that sell this kind of tea now have some kind of HK or SE Asia connection (with the exception of Muzha Tieguanyin from Taiwan). I think the HK shops are generally the best bet. I like Lau Yu Fat's, though their top grade is not cheap (3rd grade is also decent, and more affordable). Both Best Tea House and Aroma have branches in Canada, so also worth considering just in terms of convenience (BTH, especially, is more concentrated towards the middle of the roasting spectrum, but I think most of their teas are well balanced).

You can also find stuff from Yao Yang (Geow Yong) on Chinese auction sites. I think it's a bit overfired, but if you like a really strong roast, you could look at that.

I really like origintea's high fire TGY, great stuff and affordable.
Themandarinstearoom also seems to have some roasted/high fired TGY but I haven't tried them yet.

Re: Roasted TGY
I bought a bag of this a few months ago and didn't care for it then, but I pulled it out this weekend and made some iced tea with it and was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if the roast has had a chance to settle or if my tastes have changed, but after a summer of green oolongs and japanese senchas, this toasty tea hit the spot.amaranto wrote:I love Seven Cups's Chuan Tong Tie Guan Yin. It has been one of those I've liked more and more over time. I bet it's great iced. It's one of my favorite teas to brew grandpa style.I bought a bag of this a few months ago and didn't care for it then, but I pulled it out this weekend and made some iced tea with it and was pleasantly surprised.
