Bael Tea

Bael:

Traditionally an offering to Shiva, we discovered this stuff at a restaurant in a fancy mall in Thailand and loved it. I bought a 500g bag of fruit at the big market in Bangkok a few days ago and just brewed some up. It is excellent stuff and very tasty. Anyone else tried it or drink it regularly?

I used to drink it a couple of times a month--cold. Actually forgot about it, but I am in Thailand where it is sold cold some places & will give another try. A good routine-breaker.
I did buy some to prepare myself years ago & did not like it so much, probably because I was not willing to add as much sugar as the vendors do.

That's true, the matoom that was served in the mall was so sweet it was like syrup, and my brother actually went looking for bael syrup to reconstitute! I think it tastes amazing, even without sugar. Finding it in the jatujak was a pure stroke of luck!

Where in Thailand are you?

jayinhk, I'm in Chiangmai now for about 3 more weeks. A lot of rain but it is still pleasant.

Ethan, lucky you, wish I was in Chiang Mai! Would love another amulet for the collection if you're doing any temple visits. :)
