Your Top 3 Shu Pu!

by Keiki » Aug 28th, '13, 14:04

Trying to discover more good shous! I've always had a thing against Shus... most of them had a strange cardboard taste profile that was not interesting at all for me.
Thanks to some recommendations of members here I've finally found two that I thought were decent, yay :D (so I can't even fill the top 3 yet lol, but anyways...)
Please post your top 3 shus here. You're allowed to make some honorable mentions, of course!

#1# 2009 Dayi "Red Rhyme" - recommended by our member Mr. Mopu. Pleasant smooth taste and I swear it has some Qi. I wish I had a bing of this :(

#2# 2008 Tulin ripe brick 100g - recommended by our member lordsbm. Pretty cheap and taste-wise it's almost as nice as the Red Rhyme.

#3# none yet lol

I like the meng hai 7262, the 2007 is reasonably priced.

A lot of the shu I drink is loose - from various sources. Ten Ren (Taiwan), mariage frère, Jing Tea shop (HK)

7581 is blended, and therefore not really in your scope, but I do like old blended teas too. I make my own blend with a 2007 v93 and 2003 yiwu sheng.

+1 one the Menghai 7262. Another one I like is a 2006 Menghai Wei Zui Yan followed by the Hai Wan High mountain cake I listed earlier. I have a well aged Menghai 8592 from 2007 that is very good also.

Naming a top three is an almost impossible proposition. First of all I think you need a top three Sheng and a top three Shu. Second, I have drank so much Puerh in the past 6 months I don't think I could pin down three. I could probably name my top three sources for Puerh, Puerhshop, Yunnan Sourcing, and Pure Puer Tea, not necessarily in that order.

Don't have a top 3. Tried many Shu samples but most didn't do it for me. My favourite by far is an awazon shu (http://www.pu-erhtea.com/TeaDetails.aspx?TeaID=44). It's really smooth and the later infusions are very sweet. Not a complex tea but I love drinking this at work!

So my friend, if your house was burning down and you had time to get only 3 of your shu cakes, which ones would you get? Or would you save none from your stash because it is an almost impossible proposition?

Although I rarely like to speak for everybody else, I would guess that almost everybody here would say "Screw the shu, I'm saving 3 of my sheng cakes."

But say your pumidor with all your sheng cakes was already on fire but the random shelf that has been delegated to shu Puerh was mercifully free of flames then what would get?

I personally would start grabbing yixing and jars of Yancha leaving the shu to a fiery grave
