Counterfeit water, it's coming...
What, in China? Counterfeit water is already there. I had to stop buying Nongfu Spring altogether because what I was getting 50% of the time was a weird rancid thing.

Nongfu has various sources, barrels of Nongfu have been dissed recently quite often, I haven't seen bottled ones dissed though..cos that's what I drink daily....if the bottled ones are also conterfeited..what I can do?

China is like that...Beijing's air pollution has gone up over one can control..but not many people seem to notice..meanwhile those goverment officials have the finest air cleaners installed at home or places they are visiting...

Nongfu has various sources,
That's what I heard too. But I never liked nongfu. Even the nongfu water other people seen as "sweet" tastes sour to me. I like tasteless water and don't like super soft water. I like the filtered underground water the best (my parents' apartment complex has a large filter). And it's cheaper than bottled water and saves us the labor carrying it from the supermarket.
For traveling, I usually buy kang shi fu (artificial) mineral water. It seems always cheaper than nongfu and most other water, and tastes nice without the soft taste that I dislike.

In US, my favorite tap water is that from Syracuse, NY. My second favorite tap water is from western Mass. My third favorite is from Boston (because Boston "steals" water from western Mass.). There is no need to buy bottled water in these areas yet so many people still do so. I once initiated an education program talking people out of buying bottled water. It worked well especially by blind tasting and when a microbiology professor proved (not peer reviewed but quite powerful) that some bottled waters were not as clean as a natural pond water in western Mass.

P.S. I'm not a bottled water vendor

I've never imagined 'buying water' when I stayed in the US, too (I used to have a filter). Even water from some part of Korea you can drink without a filter...China water really sucks :)

Nongfu has always been kind of crappy, honestly. I never understood why people like it - even the one from Qiandaohu, which is the "good" one that started its brand.

I buy the cheap Nestle water - works, and nobody fakes it, because it's not worth faking.

As for the Dayi cakes - shah hit it on the head. Basically, if you're serious about drinking your tea, don't bother with Dayi

I believe different water works differently on different teas..I've got some good reports using Nongfu brewing Yancha...and it's what I drink daily.

I've experienced it, some bottled water rots quickly in the summer of China, but Nongfu passed it. Plus, supermarket in my 1st floor doesn't sell Nestle :)

I am not really a fan of Dayi or Xiaguan or Menghai, frankly the paper or any code or brand don't matter much to me. The most authentic way to approach tea is to learn how to drink the tea and evaluate its quality by drinking. So it is good to buy a small sample and go through it like a mad scientist before committing more. All those series numbers, QR codes etc can be fake easily but not the true quality of a good tea.

Cake faking of another type
This is quite common even in very established country. At the end of the season in 8th month / 15thday of the lunar calender, the mooncake prices slide to a dime. Still there are a lot of unsold mooncakes lying around after that. I don't buy mooncake at the early part of the season. I heard in some cases, they use the mooncake paste recycled from the previous year. Not sure whether it is true, but I rather not take the risk.
