Mitch Iburg wares, anybody?

by FiveStar » Oct 22nd, '13, 11:44

Hello all!

I have several pieces from a young ceramic artist out of Appomattox, VA named Mitch Iburg, and am amazed I haven't seen his name mentioned here. He uses unprocessed, native clay from Virginia, wood-fires, and his work is very down to earth. His feet are all hand carved, rather than turned.

I'm certain some of you would love his work! My most recent purchase was a shino yunomi that has a nice blast of ash on the lip. Interestingly, it leaks like hagi-yaki! It's getting daily use here at work, brewing chinese greens Grandpa Style, and every time I hit it with hot water I get tiny oozies from the pinholes. They never drip, but merely leave small rings of tannin behind.

AHHH! Sorry Mods, I was reading about two things at once when I posted this. Can someone please move this to the Teaware forum? My apologies

I've had my eye on his work for a while now, I really need to pull the trigger on a piece.

Nice! Can't wait to hear your impressions. I'm just waiting till the 1st of the month to snag another Yunomi. I believe there was a kiln fired recently, so maybe new work will be on the way soon.

I have an Etsy teawares wishlist and had thought these looked really interesting - it's really nice seeing your great photos. Very good feel to that piece.

Just received my order, and am literally gasping with how beautiful it is! I appreciated the really fast shipping, and excellent packaging. My indoor lights won't do it justice tonight, so I'll try to take and post some pictures tomorrow.

Uh oh, I think I might have... :? Sorry! Um, you have great taste?

This guinomi is seriously gorgeous, and holds about 120mL. I love the imprints of the shells! :D

Cool! Glad it went to a fellow Teachatter.

Love those shells, and the slip work is great too. Can't wait to see more from Mitch!
