Has anyone else stopped drinking Japanese green tea?

Has anyone else stopped drinking Japanese tea because of Fukishima and the radiation?

Not me - I am enjoying some Sencha Fukamushi Superior from Hibiki-An right at this moment. I guess that in order to get anywhere near any harmful levels of radiation through tea I would have to drink so much that the sheer amount of liquid would kill me long before the radiation ever could.

That's what I've been wondering, too. Korean and Chinese goverments stopped importing many of Japanese goods near Fukushima...

Maybe they are over-reacting..but Korean grocery stores it's mandatory to credit if it's imported from Japan..I don't know how they affected in tea business though. High barriers and standard of Korean goverment's policy even affected the whole Chinese tea business (mostly Puerh)....teapot and teawares are safer in this category though....

There's a 2 year long thread on this topic here:

http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... =radiation

I buy from O-Cha, a vendor i trust to review test reports and only sell tea with no or low radiation impact.

You beat me to it!

There are plenty of trustworthy vendors ... know your sources. And definitely read the linked topic!

I would be more concerned about Chinese teas given the fact that numerous banned pesticides are still used on a regular basis.

Nor have I (Chinese teas), but I definitely want to deal with trustworthy vendors ... not someone simply selling it on the cheap!

Drinking sencha from Uji right now.
I drink lots of Chinese oolong, but I shy away from the cheap stuff. I'd be very nervous about questionable Chinese greens.
Although not bothered by finding a cigarette butt or two in a cake of puerh.

I've never bought puerh in cake form or large amounts but I'd be grossed out by seeing cigarette butts or tobacco in it. :|

Yeah, occasionally you'll find things in bings, especially cheaper ones. I found a peanut shell in mine.

I think we've got a thread dedicated to this somewhere, though, a couple good tales in there.
