Is it OK to drink tea's hairs?

by b101 » Dec 6th, '13, 03:42

I've been drinking in recent days, a Golden Buds Tan Yang Gongfu (from fujian), that has lots of hairs, so much of them that they really stick to my throat after drinking (haven't decided yet if this is a good or bad thing).

I know a lot of people gong fu those tea, so the first rinsing will probably wash all the hairs. However, I really like the taste of this tea when brewed western style so I prefer not to gong fu it.
I was wondering if it is safe from the health aspect to drink the hairs?

Hoping someone has the answer, as I haven't found anything on the web that deals with this question.

Is it a man's hair or supposedly coming from a tea leaf?

If the former, then it should be on disposal list! :D

I never bother to scrape the fuzz off of silver needle, or silver bud, or long jing....

But I've never noticed the fuzz sticking in my throat either.

I've read (I forget where) that the fuzz is considered desirable for mouth feel. But it never tickled my throat either. The only tea that does that to me is Yabao, which is a tea (or maybe not) that never made sense to me anyhow. Left my mouth and throat feeling very uncomfortable.
