Konacha

by MEversbergII » Dec 22nd, '13, 15:50

My SO-unit has gotten into sushi making, so I'd like to get her some kona-cha for the "complete experience". Where would you guys suggest picking it up? I know a few "mass market" brands make it, but you guys might know something better.

Thanks,

M.

Ippodo offers one that is pretty decent. It is hard to get too excited about Konacha in and of itself ... but as an accompaniment to sushi and other Japanese dishes, it stands up well to the task.

Awesome, thanks guys. Anything available in the US, or is this something that'll have to come from Japan each time?

Den's doesn't have it on their site, but you could try Amazon:

I ended up going with Maiko. The German stuck inside of every section certainly made for an interesting experience.

I'm guessing it'll be a month before it gets here, but when it does I'll give you guys my thoughts.

Thanks!

So this Konacha arrived today. I brewed it 5g to 250ml with boiling water for 30 seconds. Not deep, but it is satisfying enough for my tastes. Going to go make a second cup now!

How about cheap matcha or ground sencha? Also not expensive. You can see this solution quite often in kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt) restaurants. One small bowl and spoon with lid usually stays on desk near pipe with hot water. It's possible to get quite good yet still affordable matcha if you buy in 100-300-500g aluminium foil bags.

I also liked Den's konacha but couldn't find it anymore. Does anyone know where I can find?
