Place to buy beautiful teacup?

by gunbuster363 » May 6th, '14, 21:44

Looking for beautiful teacup but every teacup I saw online is so expensive. Have been using Arita-Yaki teacups from O-Cha but they do not satisfy me anymore.

Also I saw some beautiful teacup and teapot of Hagi Yaki also but they are so expensive ( say average 100USD+ ).

I live in Hong Kong.

Are you specifically looking for Japanese yaki? Chawangshop has some nice cups for low prices.

Been sick of Chinese teaware.... too simple. Most of the time China are just blue and white with simple pattern.

There are lots of beautiful cups for less than $100 US. I've paid more than that for a handful of cups, and most of the rest were quite a bit cheaper, in the range of $20-60, from artisans who participate in TeaChat, some from eBay, some from non-TC-potters on Etsy. Most of these have also been tea cups rather than tea bowls, so size matters. It's harder to get a really wonderful pot for under $100, but it can be done if you're willing to be patient.

What sort of teaware are you looking for? Large tea bowls? Small pots? All glazed for use with many types of teas? Unglazed for a limited variety?

One specific suggestion for Japanese teawares: this eBay seller deals in used teawares, a wide variety of sizes, styles, and prices.

I need a nice Matcha Bowl , and a teacup which hold about 150ml water ( Not yunomi )

Now I am using teaware from O-Cha which is okay and priced reasonably. Anyway I want to look for something of more aesthetic pleasing and is still functional.
