I drank a 2006 Xiaguan Xiao Fa this morning. Later the day I started chopping some wood and the smell hit me. I haven't cut such wood before as today and I realized the flavour that I tasted in the Xiao Fa was not dirt but wood and to be precise it was red oak. I think the 2005 Haiwan Lao Tong Zhi has some oak in it too. I've got so much to learn about flavours but it feels good when I can taste and tell what it is precisely.

I quite like this tea and I'm amazed at how different it is from 7542.
8582's are nice .

I got one from Tuocha tea a few years ago. It was the first sheng that I really liked. I should have bought all they had then.

What year was the 8582 you bought? They have some 2008s now, but I can get 2011s for half the price!

TuoChaTea's storage vs HK traditional storage:

I'm tempted to pick some up for dry storage, but they'll need at least five years to be drinkable...

2012 Mengku Wild Arbor King

Revisiting an old standby. I have a nice collection of different vintages of this tea but this 2012 version is my personal favorite since the dominant, perfumy notes never fail to trigger a bunch of sweet memories. It's a bit tricky to brew right and get a balanced spectrum in the cup but I like it that way.

2004 Xiaguan 8653 (not the iron cake). Light traditional HK storage. No humid taste at all and barely any storage aromas from the dry and wet leaf. A hint of sweetness. Lovely gushu-like aroma from the leaves after the rinse and the first few infusions. Tastes like smooth black tea, citrus and mango. Perhaps the best example of traditional storage I've had yet since there's lots of origin character. Brews up the color of copper. Really lovely tea!

A good grade of cha tou I bought in Kunming. Sweet and no off flavors at all and just pleasant all around. It appears to have softened some since April--I bought 1.3kg of cha tou while in Kunming, so I have plenty for the long haul and I expect it to continue to improve over the years.

Since there seems to have been a problem with the forum for the past couple of days I might as well recap what I have been sipping:

Monday and Tuesday it was the turn of 2013 Spring Jingmai from Terre de Ciel and today I am sipping 2016 Jingmai Gulan from Bannacha,

I still haven't tried anything but the Kunlu from my TdC order but the day will come for sure
I've had some of Williams 2016 Jingmai Honggu two days ago and will brew up some nicely aged 2007 Mengku Spring Tips right after I've clicked the submit button.

Whoa ... that one would look pretty good in my collection :) - looking forward to your tasting notes, Rui.
I really like a lot of the Mengkus I've tried and bought a 2006 MuShu (first batch) some weeks ago - really tasty, dry aged stuff. I guess I have to buy a couple more cakes for my stash.
