I have a little tea story to share.

Today I found a two days old Jimmy Johns sandwich in the fridge at home and ate it for lunch. My stomach did not agree with this idea, and I admit it was kinda stupid. So here I was sitting with a tummy ache and refusing to think about Pepto Pink stuff. And then I remembered a No-name Chinese Jasmine tea a proprietor gave me as a present in a restaurant half a world away. "Good green tea! Jasmine! Very healthy!"

So I made some. Halfway through the cup my tummy quieted down. In an hour as I was as good as new and went to the gym.

True story.

Here is my philosophy on flavored tea. Tea IS flavored, by its own essence that is.

I do appreciate jasmine though. It is nice in green tea sometimes. Earl gray can be nice too. Beyond that, I think tea is profoundly flavorful in its own right, anything added only takes away.

Tried a little experiment with some of my aged Nan Tou this afternoon. Brewing one batch my normal English way and a second batch gongfu - my first time. I got only 4 steeps from the gongfu, with the last not being very good. A total of about 16oz. I got two the English way, 24oz total, with less leaf and better taste.
Just rambling ....

I don't like flavors in iced tea at all.

Happy Birthday, Chip! Hope it's been a great day.

I enjoy flavored teas & usually have them more often than not. But like some others, I only drink black & oolong teas. Enjoyed a small pot of chocolate blackberry w/bfast.

I finished off the Fukamushi Sencha Maki from Den's today. I was a little hesitant about it since yesterday's attempt was not the best, but today's was good. After four steeps, I switched to some Valentine's tea that I tried at a slightly lower temperature to see how that suggestion worked. It was alright, but I think I like it better when brewed at boiling for 4 or 5 minutes then adding a splash of almond milk. My last tea of the day is Vanilla Rooibos.

I had a good TeaDay birthday...thanx again for the birthday wishes everyone.

2nd tea...aged Nan Tou

3rd...Guricha

4th...Houjicha

I almost had a flavored tea as well. I forgot all about Den's Sakura when I voted and posted earlier. This stuff is Spring in Japan for me. I really like it. I also enjoy true scented jasmine tea on occasion.

I got back from San Antonio this evening, and I'm drinking some Den's Kukicha now.

A belated Happy Birthday to Chip!

As for flavors - I'm an other. I like some of them, but hardly have them more days then not.

Today was a second flush darjeeling day.

Okay, so I'm a day late on this but I had a thought at bfast this morning regarding this topic. While drinking my oolong tea & taking in the qualities of it, I realized it's not as harsh or bitter as black tea. Maybe flavoring black tea helps cut down some of the bitterness & helps give it a smoother taste. :?: Dunno but for me, I predominately drink flavored black tea & unflavored oolong.

Or could it be steeping too long?
