Keemun Spring Dawn 08 notes

by joelbct » Apr 24th, '08, 10:32

So I picked up an ounce of Keemun Spring Dawn from Ito En yesterday. The tea is not listed on their website or official menu, and they have a limited supply, but it is worth checking out if you are in the area. Perhaps they would even ship some upon request, I am not sure.

It goes for $24 an ounce, or $384/pound (down from over $30 an ounce last year). Ito En of course specializes in Japanese Greens but they occasionally obtain some superior Chinese tea's.

This Keemun Spring Dawn is different from most Keemun, and better than the Spring Dawn Keemun from Seven Cups. Very smooth, not too astringent, mellow yet complex, and has a distinctive aroma. It is not particularly "smoky" like some Keemuns. An excellent and rare black tea.
